Before you authorize the transfer

Ask your current institution for a written fee breakdown. Which holdings can move as they are, and which would need to be sold? Are there charges beyond the transfer fee? Keep its answer with your transfer request.

Compare the ongoing account costs too, especially if you trade in US dollars. A reimbursed exit fee alone isn't a reason to move. Treat any promotional transfer match as a separate offer with its own terms.

Moving a TFSA? Check the transfer process first
What if fees bring you below C$25,000?

The policy doesn't settle whether a fee deduction taking you below C$25,000 affects eligibility. Get written confirmation before transferring. Send the account values and itemized fees so the answer addresses your actual transfer.

When does the refund arrive?

Refunds are automatic. Allow two business days after completion. Look for “Reimbursement” in your account's cash balance and activity. Registered-account reimbursements don't use contribution room.

Wrong amount or a USD fee?

For an incorrect refund, send support fee documentation. For a USD charge, provide the exact USD amount. Eligible USD refunds take 5–7 business days.
